About Reed

Mr. Reed Correll is a United States Army Veteran and is disabled. He retired from the State of Maryland in 2018 and was an emergency management and homeland security professional with over 30 years of public safety experience.  Reed has experience working in both state and local emergency operation centers and has worked a number of disasters including the Baltimore City Demonstrations, Hurricanes, derecho, earthquake, and the blizzards of 2009. He was also deployed to Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina, where he pushed Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) requests through the Hancock County Emergency Operation Center.

Mr. Correll worked as a Preparedness Planner IV for the Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), Adaptive Planning Branch. He was responsible for Response Planning, the Radiological Emergency Program, Special Event Planning and conducting training like the Planning Section Chief and Basic National Planners Course. He was the State EMAC Coordinator and has been an EMAC A Team member since 2005. During activations, Reed worked primarily as the Resource Branch Director at MEMA and oversaw resource requests, MEMAC requests and EMAC requests.

Prior to MEMA, Mr. Correll worked as an Emergency Manager of several hospitals where he utilized his emergency management experience to bringing hospitals into compliance with Joint Commission standards. During his hospital tenure Mr. Correll established a Critical Incident Stress Management Team and was instrumental in defusing hospital personnel involved in several traumatic incidents. Mr. Correll also worked for a local county as a Bio Terrorism Coordinator for a local health department and as an Emergency Planner for the local emergency management agency.

Mr Correll is a certified FEMA trainer and has been teaching classes and speaking at national conferences around the country for over 25 years. He understands audiences and brings a personal and entertaining perspective to all the classes he teaches.

Mr. Correll holds a bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management from the University of Maryland University College. He is a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), a Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP) and a Maryland Professional Emergency Management Program (MDPEMP). He is currently the Vice President of the Maryland Emergency Management Association.

Mr. Correll is currently running for a seat on the Republican Central Committee of Harford County.
